Troy Martin Vance

On May 18, 2024, surrounded by the comfort of his home, Troy Martin “Marty” Vance took his final peaceful breath, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Marty was born on December 22, 1952, in Gladewater, Texas to Troy West Vance and Elizabeth Pearl (Eitson) Vance. His family settled in Hawkins his junior year of high school. Marty attended Tyler Junior College and later worked for Exxon Mobile. His professional journey was defined by over 30 years of service at Exxon Mobile—a testament to his strong work ethic. His hard work and expertise left a lasting impact on all those he encountered throughout his career.

On March 26, 1982, he married the love of his life, Sherry, at Liberty Baptist Church in Hawkins. Additionally, Marty was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Hawkins.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Marty found enjoyment in the outdoors. He loved deer hunting, fishing, camping adventures, and tending to his vegetable garden. When he wasn’t working or enjoying the outdoors, he could be found spending time with his family and loving on his 6 grandchildren, who affectionally called him “Pappy.”

In his passing, Marty is reunited with his parents, Troy West and Elizabeth Pearl Vance.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 42 years, Sherry Vance of Hawkins; two sons, Shane Vance and wife Laura of Timpson, and JC Vance and wife Stephanie of Quitman; three siblings, Sandra Welch of Overton, Charlotte Levy of Nacogdoches, and Wesley Vance of Tyler; and six adored grandchildren, Georgia, Scarlett, Timber, Wilder, Landry, and Kylie Jo; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
