Thelma Arlene Shampine, 99, passed away on February 3, 2026, in Tyler, Texas. She was born on February 12, 1926, in Pella, Iowa, to Theodore Weyers and Emma Bell Weyers. Thelma was the oldest of five sisters and two brothers.
Thelma met Charles “Chuck” Shampine in Iowa, and the two were married in August of 1944. They later moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, before settling in Texas. Together, Thelma and Chuck raised three children—two sons and one daughter—whom they loved dearly and devotedly.
Later in life, Thelma and Chuck enjoyed traveling to various destinations together. A devout Christian, Thelma was active in her church and lived her faith through service to others. She founded the sewing club, Crafty Christians, which made blankets for infants in need. When she was not traveling with Chuck, she could often be found tending to her flower garden. Thelma was also a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Emma Bell Weyers; her husband, Charles “Chuck” Shampine; two brothers and two sisters; and two grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Doug Shampine and wife Rita, and Dennis Shampine and wife Janet; her daughter, Deborah Shampine; three sisters; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In Lieu of Flowers, Donations can be sent to the Liberty Methodist Church Crafty Christians at P.O. Box 46, Quitman, Texas 75783.
A memorial service will be held on February 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Lowe-Gardner Funeral Home.
