Susan Short, 81, passed away on June 25, 2026. She was born on February 19, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Susan was the beloved wife of James C. Short. Together they built a loving family and shared many years of marriage. She is survived by her husband, James C. Short; her four children: Mindy Nichols and her husband, Jeff Nichols; Alan Short; John Paul Short and his wife, Tracy; and Stephen Short and his wife, Sarah. She was the proud grandmother of 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.

She is also survived by her brother, Bob Jenkins, and her sister, Jane Kee, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A devoted homemaker, Susan dedicated her life to raising her children and creating a warm, loving home where everyone felt welcome. She was known for her kindness, selflessness, and unwavering love for her family. A faithful member of the Church of Christ, Susan's faith was the foundation of her life and was reflected in the compassion and grace she showed to everyone she met.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley Jenkins and Helen Jenkins, and by her beloved grandson, Jace Short.

Susan's legacy of love, faith, and devotion to her family will continue through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

A Graveside Service for Susan will be held on June 30, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Quitman City Cemetery. The family will welcome friends for visitation on Monday, June 29, 2026 from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M.at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.
