REVEREND DR. TOMMY W WETZEL     10/24/1933 to 06/17/2023

Funeral Services celebrating the Faith, Life and Love of Reverend Dr. Tommy W. Wetzel will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at the White Rock Campus of Lakepointe Church, 9150 Garland Road, Dallas, Texas 75218.  The Wetzel family welcomes everyone to the church to visit beginning at 10:00 AM until services begin. Interment will take place at 3:00 PM in the Concord Cemetery located on FM 778, near the intersection of CR2590, across from Hubbard Chapel Baptist Church, Mineola, Texas.

Tommy Wetzel went HOME to rest in peace and comfort on the morning of Saturday, June 17th.   He was born in Wood County, Texas and will be laid to rest there.  Tom served our country with the U.S. ARMY in the Korean War, but most of all, HE SERVED THE LORD.  He became Reverend Tommy Wetzel at the age of 17, and later Reverend Dr. Tommy Wetzel, as he liked to remind everyone.  We all know him as Tom.

Tom was a simple man born during THE GREAT DEPRESSION.  He owned 2 pairs of boots - his brown work boots with holes in them from decades of farm work, and his black CHURCH boots that he always kept shiny.  He had his straw farmer’s hat and his brown and black cowboy hats.  He loved being a dapper man who got attention, even in what we nicknamed his “ketchup” and “mustard” suits.  They were as bright and colorful as his personality.  Everyone knew Tom.  He never met a stranger.

He is known to read two books – The Bible and The Farmers’ Almanac.  He seldom left the house except for attending church every Sunday, visiting his wife Virginia at least once weekly since her passing, and attending his monthly American Legion meetings.  He loved GOD, farming, hunting with his sons, and talking… talking… talking.

Tom is survived by his children, Marion Sumrall, Wayne Wetzel, Terry Wetzel, Isabella Mazza, Tracy Dominiak, and Tammy Dancer, 3 stepchildren, and by his brother, James Wetzel.  He has 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, with another due in October.  He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia, grandson Charles Leverett III, brothers R.C., Billy, and Charles, and parents Buddy Wetzel and Katie Blundell Wetzel.

There are so many colorful stories about Tom, and memories with him.  We know that he is sharing his stories in HEAVEN.  We welcome you to share your favorites too.
