Peggy Norton Gilbreath, of Quitman, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 19, 2022 at the age of 92.

Peggy was born December 20, 1929 to Ralph and Edna Avery in Yantis, Texas.  She was a member of Myrtle Springs Baptist Church in Quitman.

Peggy married Forrest Norton and had two children, Steve and Linda Norton.  They lived in Tyler, Texas and then moved to Arlington, Texas.  After the death of Forrest, she moved to Quitman and worked for Quitman Independent School District in the kitchen and custodial departments.  She retired in the mid 90’s after many years. She met John D. Gilbreath, and they married on August 20, 1976.  .

Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved fishing and doing crossword puzzles.  In her earlier years, she enjoyed going on her annual trip to Branson, Missouri.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Edna Avery; daughter, Linda Norton; husbands, Forrest Norton and John Gilbreath; son, Allen Gilbreath; grandson Adam Gilbreath; and four brothers.

She is survived by three sons, Steve Norton and wife Paula of Mineola, Roger Gilbreath and wife Dibbrell of Gilmer, and Glenn Gilbreath and wife Donna of Hawkins; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and 5 nieces.

Funeral service for Peggy Norton Gilbreath will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals and Cremations. She will be laid to rest following the service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 22^nd at Lowe-Gardner Funerals and Cremations.

Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Norton, Patrick Gilbreath, Brian Gilbreath, Matt McDaniel, Layne Lisenbe, and Jo Wilson. 

Honorary pallbearers are Justin Maynard, Jason Maynard, Ryan Pugh, Will Leake, George Evans, Rudy Maynard, and Hayden Evans.
