Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Nina Margaret Yates, 84, of Quitman, passed away peacefully at her home on May 11, 2026.

Margaret was born on February 8, 1942, to Milton Lord and Winnie (Murrell) Lord. She spent many years in Grand Prairie before making Quitman her home in 1978. On June 20, 1960, she married the love of her life, Charles Davis Yates, in Colorado, beginning a marriage filled with love, faith, and devotion to family.

Margaret had a caring heart and a servant’s spirit that led her into nursing. After attending Tyler Junior College and Texas Eastern School of Nursing, she earned her RN license and faithfully served others as a nurse for more than 20 years before retiring. During her career, she worked at Presbyterian Hospital in Winnsboro, where she touched many lives through her compassion and kindness.

A faithful member of First Assembly of God, Margaret loved the Lord and her family deeply. She found joy in gardening, tending to her flower beds, and crocheting. Above all else, she treasured being a mom, grandma, and great-grandma. Known lovingly as “Meems” by her grandchildren and so many others, she had a way of making everyone feel like family.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Davis Yates; parents, Milton and Winnie Lord; grandsons, Charles Darren Yates and Jordan Johnson; and 8 siblings, Raymond, Robert, Linda, Norma, Milburn, Jimmy, Lonetta, and Louise.

Left to cherish her memory are her 5 children: Charles Davis Yates Jr. and wife Kathy of Nashville, AR; Christopher Daniel Yates and wife Heather of Houston, TX; Carolyn Diana Henderson of Quitman, TX; Clinton Dion Yates and wife Lisa of Alabama; and Angela Marie Cooper and husband Don of Quitman. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Patrick Ingram, Steven Ingram, Justin Cooper, Wesley Yates, and Natalie Brewer; 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral service for Margaret will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at First Assembly of God in Quitman with Pastor Ken Otwell officiating. Graveside services will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening, May 13, 2026 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.

Serving as pallbearers are Justin Cooper, Steven Ingram, Patrick Ingram, Wesley Yates, Carter Ingram, and Wyatt Ingram.
