Neta Sue Matheson

Neta Sue Matheson, also known as "Nanny" was called to her eternal resting place on March 15, 2022 at the age of 83. She entered this world on February 25, 1939 in Tyler, Texas, born to Grady and Evelyn Inez (Robeson) Wimbish. On December 24, 1954, at the age of 15, she married the love of her life, Pinckney Donovan "Don" Matheson.  They were married for 55 wonderful years before he passed away in 2009.

Neta was a resident of Quitman for 46 years, moving here from Grand Prairie.  Prior to living in Grand Prairie, she and Don lived in Germany, where he was stationed in the US Army.  Neta was a faithful Army wife, and supported the Wounded Warriors Project.  After moving back to the United States, Neta received her EMT and Nursing Aid certificates, and worked for ETMC in Quitman for 26 1/2 years before retiring in 2004.  She and her daughter, Sherie, were the first mother/daughter EMT duo in the country.  She loved to serve and take care of others.

Neta loved her flower beds and was very proud of the garden. So much, that if a small blade of grass were to pop up, she was the first to notice and get it taken care of.  She had a green thumb and could keep nearly any plant alive.  Orchids were her favorite, though.

In Heaven she greets her husband, Don Matheson; mother, Inez Wimbish; grandson, Jason Ramsey; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Kendra Matheson; and daughter, Donna Matheson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Sherie Ramsey of Quitman, and Stacy Don Matheson and wife Kelli of Midland; two siblings, Nelda Dunaway of Chandler, and Doyle Wimbish of Chandler; three grandchildren, Nathan Ramsey, Amber Askew, and Adress Davis; 10 great grandchildren; best friend and right-hand gal, Dorothy Jean Hogg; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many friends.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations with Brother Fred Morrow officiating.  Graveside service will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Mineola.  Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM Saturday at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.

Neta was a faithful giver to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  If so desired, donations may be made in memory of Neta to St. Jude's.

Serving as pallbearers are Troy York, Shane Anderson, Joshua Askew, Ronnie Matheson, and Ethan Nance and Ronnie Moore.
