Graveside service for Mel Clemens, 78, of Quitman, is scheduled for 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Hopewell Cemetery with Pastor Mike Sullivan and Brother Fred Morrow officiating.

Mel was born in Pittsburg, Texas on June 20, 1940 to the late Tom and Georgie Pearl Clemens. He was a Wood County resident since 1958 and attended Forrest Hill Baptist Church. Mel was a self-employed welder and rancher and was a former member of the Professional Rodeo Association, Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association, and Texas Rodeo Association. On October 3, 2009 he married Sue Boyd Clemens in Quitman.

Mel passed away January 20, 2019 at his home.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Georgie Clemens, and one brother, Tomie Joe Clemens.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 9 years, Sue Clemens of Quitman; daughter, Renee Blair and husband James of Como; step children, Barry Boyd and wife Donna of College Station and Kristi Hirsch of Quitman; three brothers, CC Clemens of Alba, Thomas Clemens of Tyler, and David Clemens of Pittsburg; sister, Margie Slider of Pittsburg; step brothers, Dale Langford of Katy and Mickey Langford of Pittsburg; two grandchildren, John Denney and wife Christi, and Bryan Denney; three great grandchildren, Clara, Adelyn, and Lane; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Kyle Hayes, Billy Thompson, Brad Von Reyn, and Billy Patrick.
