Mary Elizabeth Kirbo

Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Kirbo, 77, of Quitman, are scheduled for 2:30 PM Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Lowe Funeral Home with Brother Fred Morrow and Wayne McKay officiating. Interment will follow at Myrtle Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Mary was born August 28, 1940 in Vernon, TX to the late Jesse Lee and Ina Pearl (Leverette) McKay. In 1966 she married the love of her life, Robert Kirbo. The two moved to Quitman from Tyler in 1977, where Mary worked at the Tax Office for 15 years. She was also a member of Lake Fork Baptist Church.

Mary loved to sew. Often she made quilts, her own clothes, and her children’s clothes, even making their prom and wedding dresses. She loved to sew for the community as well, sometimes making cheer skirts.

Mary passed away August 23, 2018 in Quitman, just five days before her 78th birthday.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Jesse Lee and Ina Pearl McKay; brother, Roy McKay; and sister, Adeline Johnson.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 51 years, Robert Kirbo of Quitman; two daughters, Michelle Bowers and husband Andy of Quitman, and Becky Watson and husband Billy of Quitman; one sister, Kathy Jordan and husband Michael of Winnsboro; her granddogs, Katie, Lucy, and Shandi; and several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are Andy Bowers, Billy Watson, Keith McKay, Jaimie Horton, Wayne McKay, and Earnest Largent.

My precious friend, thank you for letting me know about Mary. The pictures in the video brought back so many memories, from the little pink dress she made our first born Amy to the look on Mary's face when I told her our second child would be named in her honor, Marianne Elizabeth because she introduced Joe and me. You were very much the love of he life and I know she was very much blessed by the excellent care you gave her. Take care, know you are loved and call me any time. I miss your laugh, your love and our sweet Mary.

To be absent from the body is to be present w the Lord. That's what Paul wrote. Praying for peace and comfort for all who are broken-hearted.
