Funeral services for Mary Margaret Barnett, 84, of Mineola, are scheduled for 5:00 PM Wednesday March 2, 2016 at Lowe Funeral Home with Dr. Dick White and Rev. David Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Graveside service will be 1 PM Thursday March 3rd at Oak Grove Cemetery in Graham, TX.
Margaret was born March 29, 1931 in Archer City, TX to Frank and Elsie Shaw and died February 29, 2016 at her home in Mineola. She received her BA in Education from University of North Texas in 1953 and her MA in Education in 1972. She worked for Irving ISD for 28 years where she taught elementary and high school education, was a guidance counselor, principal at an alternative school, and vice principal at Irving High School. She retired in 1995 and moved to Mineola in 2000 where she worked and volunteered at the Quitman Library. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church.
Margaret was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a passionate educator who dedicated her long career helping children. Margaret touched many lives during her time on earth.
Mrs. Barnett was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Brent Barnett.
Survivors include husband of 34 years, Jim Barnett of Mineola; one son, David Cumpton of Berkeley, CA; two daughters, Laura Cumpton Kelley of Houston, and Jimma Barnett of Spring Hills, TN; one grandson, Ryan Kelley of Lee's Summit, MO; five granddaughters, Morgan Cumpton of Pearland, Kaitlin Thomas of Denver, CO, Taylor Kelley of Denton, Brooke Kelley of Houston, and Brentlei Barnett of Spring Hills, TN; one great grandson, Hayden Green of Pearland; and one great granddaughter, Faith Green of Pearland.
