Lynn Ray Sturrock, age 79, of Yantis, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on June 5, 2026.

Lynn was born in Liberty, Texas, to Milton Layne Sturrock and Alta Irene (Phillips) Sturrock. Following graduation from Uvalde High School, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served as a platoon leader with the 82nd Airborne Division and was honorably discharged following his military service.

After returning home to his wife and baby daughter, Lynn attended Lamar University in Beaumont, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1974 and completed graduate-level studies toward his master's degree in Environment Engineering. A proud American, Lynn deeply loved his country and remained patriotic throughout his life.

On August 19, 1967, Lynn married the love of his life, Cheryl, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Marshall, Texas. Their love story began years earlier while they were members of the Lumberjack Marching Band at SFA in Nacogdoches. Lynn played the tuba, and they met after a fellow tuba player bet Lynn he couldn't get a date with Cheryl. His friend lost the bet, and the rest was history.

Lynn enjoyed a long and successful career as an environmental engineer before retiring in 2002. In January 2013, he and his wife relocated to Yantis from Mont Belvieu Cove area to enjoy their retirement years together.

Retirement gave Lynn more time to pursue the things he loved most. He was an avid gardener who especially enjoyed growing squash, okra, collards, greens, tomatoes, blackberries, and his "not hot" jalapeño peppers. He was also a talented woodworker and craftsman who was always building something for his wife, children, and grandchildren. Among his many creations were hobby horses, slingshots, and wooden crosses for his grandchildren.

More than anything, Lynn treasured his family. He wore many titles throughout his life, but one of his favorites was "Pawpaw." He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and creating lasting memories with them through the projects, gifts, and adventures they shared together.

Lynn and Cheryl made a remarkable team. Cheryl owned a shop called "Knot Just Wood," where she would create designs and templates, and Lynn would skillfully bring them to life. Together, there seemed to be nothing they couldn't create.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Layne and Alta Irene Sturrock, and his sister, Brenda Odell.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cheryl Sturrock of Yantis, TX; two children, Stacey Sturrock of Houston, TX and Brad Sturrock of Mont Belvieu, TX; two siblings, Sharon Hubbard and husband Fred of Channelview, TX and Barry Sturrock and wife Victoria of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, Gabriel Binns, Kylie Sturrock, and Clayton Sturrock; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date and location.
