Lorine Hunter

Lorine White Hunter was born in the Sandfield community on April 9, 1923 to the parents of Lee Edward “Pete” and Jewel Nelson White. She was the oldest of eleven children with the first four being girls and therefore they worked very hard on the family farm taking care of the vegetable garden, chopping wood, picking cotton and other field work that they were hired to do. Lorine managed to learn practical things like cooking, canning and sewing just as a survival tool. She united with the Independent Baptist Church at an early age and remained a member until she married W. T. Hunter and moved to Quitman where she united with the Muddy Creek Baptist Church. She later joined the New Life Baptist Fellowship Church where she remained a member until her death.

Lorine attended the W. B. Clark school in Quitman until the eleventh grade when she had to drop out and work for the benefit of the family. Without having a detailed formal education, she managed projects, budgeted expenses, forecasted future financial requirements and always managed to help when someone needed a hand up.

Lorine is proceeded in death by her husband of seventy-three years, W. T. Hunter and her siblings of Lee Ester (Billie) Bennett, Elenora Britt, Occie McGill, Euris White, Hilton White, Marie Harvey, Wilbert White, Dimple Reeves and Elbert White.

The family left to mourn her passing are her three children, Brenda Hunter, Walter Hunter Jr (Rita), and Kennith Hunter (Daphne). Her six grandchildren Pamela Lampkin (Bubba), Kevin Coleman (Mandy), Sterling Hunter, Alauna Hunter, Brittany Green (Derion) and Keylan Hunter. Her nine great grandchildren of Courtney Roberts, Jalen Green, Kaleb Coleman, Adrianna Green, Oksana Hunter, Zach Coleman, Keidan Jenkins, Zane Hunter, and Jayce Hunter. Lorine’s remaining family also includes her sister, Shirley Clark (Fred) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
