Liliana "Lili" Pippan Sweat, age 88, of Quitman, passed away on February 25, 2021. She was born April 17, 1932, in Trieste, Italy, to Margareta Pippan. She was raised by her grandparents and spent all of her childhood in Trieste. She met the love of her life, Jerry Lee Sweat, while he was in the U.S. Army stationed in Italy. They married on March 15, 1953. They lived in numerous places in Europe, Michigan, and Dallas before moving to Quitman in 1979 after Jerry retired.
Lili was in the fragrance and cosmetic business for many years, working for Sanger Harris, Dillards, and J.C. Penney's where she made many great friends. She loved being around people and getting to know them. She was truly a "people-person". Everyone adored her Italian accent and loved listening to her countless stories of her childhood and traveling experiences. She and her husband enjoyed traveling together and spoiling their pets.
Lili was Catholic by faith and a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Mineola.
Lili was preceded by her husband Jerry on January 17, 2018. Lili is survived by numerous friends including Diane and Frank Hester, Mary and Ray Baker, Father Bernard Boteju, Elizabeth and Hal Wiese, Manuel Montiel, Mario and Alicisa Flores, Pilar Edwards, and Cheryl and Tom Moore.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to APET in Mineola. A special thanks goes out to Heritage House and Heart to Heart Hospice for taking wonderful care of Lili.
A Rosary will be held at 2:00 p.m., followed by visitation and then services will begin at 3:00 Sunday, February 28, 2021, at Lowe Funeral Home with Father Bernard Boteju officiating. Interment will follow at the Quitman City Cemetery.
