Joy Virginia Walsh

Joy Virginia Walsh, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024, at her home in Winnsboro at the age of 92. She was born on December 21, 1931, in Winnsboro to parents, James A. Swann and Iva Mae Moss. Joy was one of twelve children and grew up on a farm, fostering a strong work ethic that would stay with her throughout her life.

Joy began her career at a candy factory in Sulphur Springs before finding her calling in the medical field. She worked at the Winnsboro Hospital as a lab and x-ray technician, using her skills to contribute to the well-being of her community. Later in life, Joy's nurturing spirit led her to become a dedicated home health caregiver until her retirement around ten years ago.

Aside from her profession, Joy was a member of East Point Baptist Church, finding strength in her faith. She had a passion for music and singing. Cooking was one of Joy's favorite hobbies, using her culinary skills to bring joy to those around her. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it be tending to her garden, casting a line while fishing, or engaging in friendly competitions in softball and basketball. Joy loved playing games, particularly dominoes, 42, and Farkle.

Above all else, Joy cherished her time with family and friends. She found immense joy in attending family reunions and gatherings, treasuring the moments spent together. Her natural caregiving instincts extended beyond her profession, as she always went above and beyond to ensure the happiness and well-being of those she loved.

Joy Virginia Walsh's kind spirit and selfless nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind her daughter, Lori Walsh; son, Kim Winterbauer; brother, Dorman Wayne Swann; granddaughter, April Arrington; grandson, Eric Arrington and wife Shanna; great grandsons, Ethan Arrington and Chance Arrington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Joy is preceded in death by her husband, James D.
