Joy Marie Jewell, 84, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026.

Joy was born on January 25, 1942, in Dallas, Texas, to John Coleman Buckbee and Linda Lucille Scurlock Buckbee. She graduated from high school in Dallas and later married the love of her life, Jerry F. Jewell. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family.

After welcoming their children, Joy devoted herself to being a homemaker. She found great joy in caring for her family. Joy and Jerry made their home in Richardson, Texas, where they raised their family, before moving to Quitman in 2023.

Family was the center of Joy's life. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Of all the titles she held, "Nana" was her favorite.

Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry F. Jewell parents, John Coleman Buckbee and Linda Lucille Scurlock Buckbee; her brothers, John "Sonny" Buckbee, Joe Buckbee, Don "Pee Wee" Buckbee, and Tommy Buckbee; her sisters, Faye Cosgrove and Mary Hulshouser; and her beloved daughter, Gina Addington.

She is survived by her sons, John Jewell and Jeff Jewell and his wife, Melissa; her grandchildren, Ada, Russell, Josh, Brandon, and Jerry; several great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and many other beloved family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
