Jerry Reed Wansley

Jerry Wansley, 76, of Quitman, Texas was called home on March 20, 2023.

Jerry Reed Wansley was born on May 12, 1946, in Wood County, Texas to parents James Truman “JT” and Amie Withrow Wansley. Jerry graduated from Quitman High School in 1964 and was a lifetime resident of the Wood County area. In 1965, he married the love of his life Thelma, at Macedonia Baptist Church.

Jerry attended and was a deacon at Sharon Baptist church. He was also a member of a square dance club, the Flora Masonic Lodge #502 in Mineola, a former member of the Mineola school board, t-ball coach, and an avid fisherman. His favorite lake to fish was Lake Fork. His favorite thing was being a grandpa.

He is preceded by his parents James and Amie Wansley; brothers Donald and Billy Frank “Bill” Wansley.

He is survived by his wife Thelma Wansley; children Kevin Wansley and wife Ashley of Yantis, Tx, Ricky Wansley and wife Margaret of Yantis, Tx, Shanna Purkey and husband Shannon of Katy, Tx; brother Dave Wansley and wife Carol of Holly Lake Ranch, Tx; sister Katie Turnage of Ennis, Tx; many grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Visitation for Jerry will be held Friday, March 24 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.

Graveside services will be 10:00AM Saturday, March 25 at Turner Cemetery in Hawkins with Pastor Perry Shirley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of Jerry Wansley to the Arbor Foundation.
