James Erastus Rogers, age 91 of Quitman, TX entered into the Gates of Heaven in the presence of his Lord and Savior on April 27, 2026, from the Rock Creek Nursing and Rehab Facility in Sulphur Springs, Tx.
James was born November 19, 1934, to Haskell and Jessie Hyde Rogers in Yantis, Tx at the home of Vernon and Beulah Rogers.
A 1952 graduate of Yantis High School, James went on to attend Business School in Tyler, Tx. After business school, he went to work for Malone Motors in Quitman, Tx as a Bookkeeper and Parts man. In the late sixties, James opened his own Auto Mechanic Shop in Yantis, Tx. He finally retired in the late eighties to take care of his cows and garden. James enjoyed making blackberry and muscadine jelly and wine. Mostly he liked riding around on his 4-wheeler and attending to his farm. James attended Cartwright Baptist Church where he found strength in fellowship, and joy in worship. He was a man of strong and deep faith.
James is survived by his two children Jimmy (Susan) Rogers of Quitman, and Julie (Dale) Jones of Mt. Vernon; sister Judy Rogers Newman of Quitman; three grandchildren Latisha (Clint) Barrett of Winnsboro, Shane Wilson of Lindale, and Rebecca Powell of Winnsboro; seven great-grandchildren Hailee Pingitore, Dillon Barrett, Katelynn (Christian) Davis, Dacey Barrett, Marshall Drury, Kalista Wilson, and David Powell, Jr.; great-great grandchild Kayson Davis; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lucia Strickland Rogers; parents Haskell and Jessie Hyde Rogers; and brother Jerry Tom Rogers.
James’ legacy of faith and compassion will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00PM Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Rock Hill Cemetery Pavillion with visitation one hour prior at 11:00AM Saturday, May 2, 2026 with Pastor Cody Mize officiating. Pallbearers will be Shane Wilson, Jeff Rogers, Tommy Rogers, Terry Rogers, Ronnie Rogers, and Blake Rogers.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Rock Hill Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1365 Quitman, Tx 75783.
