It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Guy Pace on August 1, 2025, in Quitman, Texas. Born on September 15, 1945, in Shreveport, Louisiana, James was the son of James Pace and Jimmie Lee Robinson Pace.
James was known for his deep devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, and his love for the simple pleasures in life. After graduating from high school, he built a long and respected career as a skilled mechanic with the local water utility company.
James held a deep and abiding love for his son, Travis. He often spoke with pride about the man Travis had become—hardworking, kind, and full of integrity. To James, Travis was the definition of a good man: a devoted husband, a respected professional, and someone with a heart big enough to help anyone in need. Their bond was strong and filled with mutual respect, and James considered Travis one of his greatest blessings and was very proud of him.
On August 31, 1998, James married the love of his life, Mary Pace. Together they shared 27 wonderful years filled with laughter, adventure, and enduring love. He welcomed her children as his own and found tremendous joy in the role of stepfather and grandfather.
An avid outdoorsman, James loved hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature gardening and doing yard work. His weekends were often spent at the dirt track racing cars with Travis. His heart was especially drawn to the sun and surf of the Florida coast. But above all, nothing brought him greater joy than his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He was a fun, steady, and loving presence in their lives—offering affection, wisdom, and memories they will forever cherish.
James is preceded in death by his parents, James and Jimmie Lee Pace, and sisters, Jean and Sue.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Pace of Quitman, Texas; his son Travis Pace and wife Karen of Caddo Mills, Texas; and his stepchildren: Angela Thompson and husband Pat of Kilgore, Texas; Scott Lemons and wife Liz of Georgia; and Tony Lemons of Fort Worth, Texas.
He was a proud grandfather to Drew Horst of Rockwall; Abby Fyffe and husband Hunter and their sons Ezra and Levi of Tennessee; Anna Tecum and husband Maynor of Guatemala; Jocie, Savannah, Cori, Hudson, and Isaac Lemons of Georgia; Lorena Lemons of Fort Worth and Ryan Hix and wife Amberly of Quinlan.
James also leaves behind extended family and a host of friends who will miss him deeply.
A memorial service to honor James Guy Pace will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.
