Hazel Ann Bettis Jones

“If we measured life in moments, not in months or years, I have lived a hundred lifetimes, loved by all who hold me dear.”

Hazel Ann Bettis Jones, age 81, passed away peacefully, April 12, 2024.  She was born June 24, 1942 in Haskell, Texas to Jack and Zadie Bettis.

Hazel was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked for many years, retiring from the Texas Department of Transportation, a job she was very proud of.  Her upbeat attitude and quirky sense of humor kept her coworkers laughing.  She was very active in her church and loved her church family so much.

Faith and family were most important to Hazel. She loved her role as a mother, and Nana.  She was the proud parent of one daughter, Kimberly Carpenter, and Nana to her four grandchildren, Audra Phipps, Dylynn Carpenter, Bryttny Schneider, and Colt Carpenter, and five great-grandchildren.   She was quick with a warm hug and enthusiastic “I love you” whenever a loved one was close by.  She was a true and faithful servant and sister in Christ attending Living Waters Fellowship in Quitman, Texas.  A daughter of the King and Highly favored.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Zatie Bettis; sister, Martha Bland; and several other loved ones.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Carpenter and husband Andy Carpenter; grandchildren, Audra Phipps, Dylynn and Sierra Carpenter, Bryttny and John Schneider, and Colt Carpenter; along with great grandchildren, Bentley, Zack, Josh, Kynslee, and Asa; and her brother, Jackie Bettis.
