Memorial Services for Harold Glynn “Tex” Midkiff will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13 at Lowe-Gardner Funeral Home of Quitman, Texas with Pastor Mike Midkiff officiating.

Harold Glynn "Tex" Midkiff, 72, of Yantis, Texas passed away October 6, 2022, at home with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

 

He was born June 22, 1950, in Palestine, Texas to the late Elton Lee and Lula Blanche Brown Midkiff. He was a graduate of Palestine High School and Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.

 

Harold and LaJuana built a home on Lake Fork over 20 years ago so they could enjoy the lake, fish and hunt. The two fished many bass tournaments under the TEAMidkiff brand.  He had a long career in the security field working for the United States Department of Defense before he retired. He was a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and Certified Protection Professional (CPP).

 

Harold loved to write. He wrote a monthly piece for The Community Chronicle newspaper focusing on interesting Texas people and history. He wrote four books with his last being, Hidden History of East Texas. Many of his stories were told around the “table of knowledge” at the Yantis Cafe. He also enjoyed as a hobby playing “Texas Hold’em,” in casinos in Louisiana and Oklahoma.          

 

Harold was proceeded in death by his parents, Elton and Blanche Midkiff, a sister, Hilda Faye Midkiff Adams, two brothers, Herbert Lee Midkiff and Harlin Ray Midkiff.

 

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie LaJuana Midkiff, two sons, Christopher Dylan Midkiff of Dallas, Texas, and Aaron Lee Midkiff of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Nephews Jimmy Adams of Pearland, Texas, Randal Midkiff of Lufkin, Texas, Mike Midkiff of Quitman, Texas, John Adams of Centerville, Texas, and nieces Jaye Midkiff Hansen of Plano, Texas, and Robin Midkiff Zangarine of Spring, Texas.

 

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude, Memphis, TN 38105.
