George Marvin Smith

George Marvin Smith was born on April 16, 1958, and was called home to the Lord on August 28, 2025. A true Texan at heart, George spent 67 years in the beautiful state he loved, building a life as remarkable and genuine as he was.

George graduated from Quitman High School in 1976. Following high school, he began working and quickly established himself as someone admired for his dedication, work ethic, and commitment to providing for his family. He went on to build a long career in the oilfield industry, where his skill and determination not only supported his family but also took him across the world, allowing him the opportunity to travel to places such as Ecuador and Europe.

Beyond his work, George was an avid outdoorsman whose greatest joy was found in nature. His favorite pastime was hunting, and he cherished the quiet mornings, the challenge of the hunt, and the memories made in the woods.

He was a loving husband, devoted father, supportive brother, caring grandfather, proud son, and loyal friend. His life was marked by quiet strength, unwavering faith, and a devoted love for his family and loved ones.

Above all else, George was a constant foundation for his children: Shelby Smith and wife Andrea Smith, Shy’An Leslie and husband Travis Leslie, and Shayla Smith. His legacy continues through his cherished grandson, Warren Leslie, who will grow up surrounded by the stories and love of his grandfather.

George is survived by his beloved wife, Glenda Smith; his stepmother, Genie Smith; and his brothers, Billy Wayne “Buck” Smith, Richard Smith, and Thomas “Tom” Smith, who will forever remember him for his humor, wisdom, and loyalty.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Billy Ray Smith and Gloria Jean Smart.

The family invites all who knew and loved George to join in celebrating his life. Memorial services will be held September 12th at 4 p.m. and will take place at Lowe Gardner Funeral Home in Quitman . To honor George’s memory, the family kindly requests that those in attendance pair camo accents with their attire

George will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
