Ferrel Don Gowins

Ferrel “Don” Gowins, age 83 of Quitman, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Don was born on January 3, 1940 in Emory, Texas to the late James Gowins and Thelma Lee Gowins. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army. Later on, he became an inspector for the city of Garland. He married the love of his life, Kathryn, on March 11, 1961. Together the Gowins welcomed their daughter, Marianna to the world. The Gowins had previously lived in Emory before moving to Quitman four years ago.

Don, also known as “Papa”,  was a proud U.S. Army Veteran who also loved to go bowling and fishing.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Gowins; both parents, James and Thelma Gowins; his brother, James Leroy Gowins; and his son-in-law, Kris Doyle.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Marianna Doyle of Emory, Texas; his sister, Ruth House of Dallas, Texas; his two brothers, Pryor Gowins of Emory, Texas, and Allen Gowins; his two grandchildren, Amanda Siebenthaler and husband David, and Kaitlin Doyle; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
