Elizabeth Beecher (Wood) Moore, 84, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones in Quitman, Texas, on November 1, 2026. Elizabeth was born on January 9, 1942, in Evanston, Illinois, to James Elliott Wood and Alice Hoyt Wood.
Elizabeth married the love of her life, Larry Moore, on March 25, 1966. Together, they built a life and family filled with love and lasting memories. Before moving to Quitman in 1998, Elizabeth and Larry lived in Everman, Texas, where Elizabeth spent many years doing what she loved as a kindergarten teacher. She had a special place in her heart for children, and the patience, kindness, and care she shared in the classroom were a reflection of the person she was.
Elizabeth enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and was never far from a sewing project, a quilt in the making, or an opportunity to spend time fishing or tending to her garden. She found great satisfaction in creating things with her hands and sharing those creations with others. Her faith was also an important part of her life. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Quitman.
After moving to Quitman, Elizabeth became active in the community, enjoying her time at the Forever Young Activity Center, participating in Wood County Retired Personnel, and Rock Solid Fitness’s Silver Sneakers and Power Over Parkinson’s Program. She appreciated the friendships and fellowship she found there and remained involved in the activities she enjoyed.
Above all else, Elizabeth treasured her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. Whether gathered together for a visit or simply enjoying time with those she loved, these moments were the ones she held closest to her heart. Her love for her family, her faith, and the many lives she touched will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Wood; her husband, Larry Moore; and her brother, William "Bill" Wood.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberlee Moore; her son, Sean Moore and wife Christy; her sister, Nancy Naylor and husband Al; her brother, James “Jim” Wood, Jr. and wife Ellen; grandchildren, Chance Moore, Laci Vise and husband Josh, and Devin Moore; great-grandchildren, Ava Vise and Riley Vise; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church in Quitman, the Forever Young Activity Center, or Rock Solid Fitness’s Power of Parkinson program.
A memorial service celebrating Elizabeth's life will be held on November 14, 2026, at 11 am at First United Methodist Church in Quitman. A reception will follow at Forever Young Activity Center.
