Elbert Lee Wilkins, a proud U.S. Marine and beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away on July 31, 2025, in Yantis, Texas. He was born on August 7, 1971, and graduated from Quitman High School in 1989.

Elbert was a country boy at heart who found joy in the simple things, especially fishing and watching NASCAR. He was known for his big heart, quiet strength, and love for the outdoors.

He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps as a Landing Support Specialist during Desert Storm. His bravery and commitment earned him several distinguished awards, including the International Medal, the Australian Service Medal, the Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait, and the Armed Forces Expert Marksman Medal. Elbert was a Wood County Sheriff Deputy and an Officer for the Quitman Police Department.

Elbert will be remembered for his loyalty, humility, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his Father, Elbert Lee Wilkins and grandparents, L.D. & Pearl Wilkins.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Carolyn Wilkins of Quitman; son, Lee Wilkins of Quitman; daughter, Leslie Ann Wilkins of Hawkins; Stepdaughters, Ashley Latham and Carlie Latham; Sisters, Julie Holmes of Hawkins and Susan Wilkins of Denton, Grandchildren, Harley, Gavin, Aspen, Iris, and Dylan and Oaklynn, and nieces and nephews, Richard, Ashlee, and Buddy.

A Memorial Service will be held on August 23, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Lowe-Gardner Funeral Home. In honor of Elbert’s life, the family invites those who knew him to come celebrate his memory.
