Dudley Martin

Dudley Martin, 75, of Quitman passed away on the morning of February 14, 2023.

He was born in Tyler, Tx on September 9, 1947 to parents Dr. Jerry Tom, DVM and Dorothy Caroline Dudley Martin. In Dudley’s high school years, he played football and pole vaulted. He was also a member of the volunteer fire department.  He graduated from high school in 1966 and joined the United Stated Navy.

While in the Navy he would attend electronics school and become a Navy Electrical Technician. When the ships would come into port Dudley would fix the electronic equipment that had malfunctioned. He was a part of the Vietnam War and retired from the Navy in 1970. Out of the Navy, he worked for his dad at the first veterinarian clinic in Quitman for a long time, then with Dr. Joe Dawson, DMV for 10-12 years. Dudley also in the Telecom/Fiber optic industry, and later enjoyed traveling for his job. He would travel to Florida, New York, Africa, South Africa, and his most favorite place Brazil. He was a wonderful cook and could whip up a great meal in no time. He also loved to golf. To be on the green and play a few holes was a peaceful time for him. He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back.

He is preceded in death by his parents Dr. Jerry and Dorothy Martin; also, his beloved four-legged companions Pudge and Traveler

He is survived by family and friends.

A memorial service for Dudley will be held 1:00PM Monday, February 20, 2023, at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.
