It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Dorothy Ann Ingram, who departed from this world into her Heavenly Home on April 23, 2026. Her brilliant life of 99 years slowly faded away here on earth but will forever burn bright in the eternal Light of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Dorothy loved Jesus and modeled His Servant’s heart by faithfully serving others. Possessing the gift of hospitality, she welcomed anyone who came into her home. She found joy in feeding people and cooked with her heart. Butter, flour, eggs, and sugar became an award-winning pound cake, when Dorothy mixed them together and baked them in her oven. Moist inside with a flaky, golden crust on the outside. She delighted most in generously giving gifts for every occasion, especially at Christmas.
Growing up in the agriculturally rich Rio Grand Valley, a powerhouse for growing fruit and cattle ranching, Dorothy preferred city life until she met her husband, Gayle. She did, however, become quite a cattle woman, peach grower, dairyman, and livestock auctioneer clerk. There is an old saying, “Behind every successful rancher is a wife who works in town.” That was Dorothy.
An avid Longhorn fan and proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Dorothy earned a bachelor’s degree in both English and History. She later earned a Master of Library Science from East Texas State University in Commerce. Dorothy had a passion for education and spent four decades of her life impacting the lives of many students in Brownsville High School, Columbus High School, and Quitman High School. She inspired them to discover the many facets of English, History, Government, and Theater Arts. You often heard students say, “Mrs. Ingram is a hard teacher. She cuts you no slack”, while at the same time they called her “Drama Mama”, affectionately referring to how she brought the theater to life for them.
Animals and birds loved Dorothy, and she had the unique ability to communicate with them, earning her the title, “Whisperer”. Her gorgeous flowers were living proof of her green thumb. She was a beautiful lady, inside and out. Dorothy was very stylish, especially in her footwear, sporting brilliantly colored Nike shoes which became her trademark. She loved to have fun, was resilient, spontaneous and spunky, but don’t get her dander up, or her “Red Flag” would start flying.
Dorothy loved to travel and kept her passport in her back pocket, always ready to go. In fact, her passport is still valid through 2035. Some of her favorite destinations included Italy, England, Ireland, and Hawaii. She would often approach you and say, “Let’s take a trip!”
Dorothy poured out her life for her family, being their strongest advocate and sacrificing for them.
She is united in heaven with her husband of 64 years, Gayle, and her infant daughter, Patricia.
She will be lovingly remembered and is survived by her children Elizabeth (Gene), Bryan (Lisa), Alice, Debra (Jere); granddaughter April (Shawn); and great-grandson Parker.
Lets Take a Trip!
