Funeral services for Doris Elizabeth Mullican Hood, age 92, of Quitman, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 7, 2023 at the First Baptist Church in Quitman with Pastor Joel McMullan officiating.  Interment will follow at 4:00 P.M. at the Southland Cemetery, 1205 SW 3rd St, Grand Prairie, TX 75051 with services under the direction of Lowe-Gardner Funerals and Cremations.  Doris passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023, in Quitman, Texas. 

She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on March 14, 1931, to the late Sterling Price and Jewel Susan (Garvin) Garner.  Doris grew up in Dallas, Texas and moved to Grand Prairie, Texas in 1946.  She was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company prior to working for Sears and Roebuck and Company where she retired in 1992.  Doris had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Weatherford where she was very active in the Women’s Missionary Union having served as the WMU Director there from 1998 to 2005.  She also served as the Director of the Parker Baptist Associational from 1997-2001, and Board Director of the Texas Baptist WMU.  She was a longtime member of the American Business Women’s Association and served as President of the Prairie Schooner Chapter in Grand Prairie twice along with various other chapters.  Doris was presented with Woman of the Year in 1970.

Doris sang in the church choir at the Bowles Memorial Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, and First Baptist Church Weatherford.  She also sang with the Sensational Singer in Parker County and was a soloist for all these groups.  Doris was a past member of the Country Crossroads Chapter of the Family and Community Education Club in Weatherford.  Doris was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe T. Mullican and J. C. Hood; son, Charles Dean Mullican; brothers, James Earl Andrews and Howard Price Garner; 2 grandchildren, Michael Shane Wallace and Elizabeth Marshall; and by 3 great great grandchildren, Wayne Allen Lee, John Michael Travis and Keath Koppin Gifler. 

Doris is survived by daughters, Susan Elizabeth Mullican and partner, Gary of Quitman, Texas, Marion Jo Wallace of Italy, Texas, and Paula Marie Stephenson and husband, Michael of North Richland Hills, Texas; grandsons and wives, Charles and Bobbi Jordan of Springfield, Missouri and Lonnie Jordan of Runge, Texas; granddaughters and husbands, Kelley and Walter Eatmon of Terrell, Texas, Marshia Terry and partner, Jimmy of Arlington, Texas, Dena Wallace and Jeff Sanders of Italy, Texas, Adra and Kyle Vansanford of North Richland Hills, Texas and Jenifer Stephenson and partner Josh of Benbrook, Texas; 7 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 24 great great grandchildren.  Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Jordan, Lonnie Jordan, Walter Eatmon, William Eatmon, Trevor Sanders, Danny Thigpen, Kade Stephenson and Lonnie Grover.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 6, 2023, at the Lowe-Gardner Funeral Home in Quitman.
