Donald George Allen

Donald George Allen, age 86, of Alba, passed away March 25, 2024 at his home. He was born on June 8, 1937, in California to Charles and Violet Allen.

Donald was married to his beloved wife, Sherry Allen, in July 1958,  and their union was blessed with five children. His family meant the world to him, and he cherished the time spent with loved ones.

Donald was a hardworking man and spent many years utilizing his engineering skills at Caterpillar Inc in Aurora, Illinois before retiring in the early 1990s. He then settled in East Texas, where he continued to work part-time as a mechanic at Tri-County Ford and finally migrated to Alba.

Donald had a passion for fishing, embarking on occasional trips to Canada and other northern lakes to indulge in his favorite hobby, and later enjoying fishing for sand bass and crappie in Texas. In his younger years, he found joy in playing baseball and softball on the Caterpillar company team. His love for sports extended to cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, always rooting for his favorite teams with passion.

Outside of work and sports, Donald had a talent for woodworking, crafting intricate toy cars, swings and chairs that he would sell at Canton 1st Mondays. He also found relaxation in completing crossword puzzles in the newspaper and reading the comics.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Violet Allen; one son, Charles Allen; and all of his siblings.

Donald Allen will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the memories and hearts of his family. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of nearly 66 years, Sherry Allen of Alba; four children, Donald Allen of Alba, Vickie Kolesar of Gun Barrel, Crystal Allen of Midway, and Brian Allen of Seven Points; 19 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

A memorial service honoring his life and legacy will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals and Cremations.
