David Wayne Gilbreath was born on November 11, 1960 to Wayne and Jo Nell Gilbreath in Dallas, Texas. He passed away April 19, 2022 in Tyler, Texas.

David grew up in the Dallas community of Lakewood where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1979. He went on to study at the University of North Texas with a Bachelor's degree in History.

This passion for history led to a lifelong love for genealogy. He was the President of the Rockhill Cemetery Association and President of the Quitman Genealogical Society.

On June 25, 1983 David married the former Donna Gail Brown. They welcomed three daughters.

While David was raised in Dallas and raised his daughters in Mesquite with his wife Donna, Quitman was always his second home and where he chose to retire in 2013.

He was preceded in death by his father Wayne Gilbreath.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years Donna Gilbreath; his mother Jo Gilbreath; his 3 daughters Rachel McCaslin of Sunnyvale, Katherine Jones, and Rebecca Gilbreath of Dallas; 2 son in laws Colin McCaslin of Sunnyvale and Justin Jones of Dallas; and his grandson Noah McCaslin of Sunnyvale. He was also survived by a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral service for David will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 22, 2022 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals and Cremations with Brother Ken Goodson officiating. He will be laid to rest at Rock Hill Cemetery following the service.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday evening at Lowe-Gardner Funerals and Cremations.

Serving as pallbearers are Sterling Newcomb, Lee Gilbreath, Dee Gilbreath, Glenn Gilbreath, Mike Anderson, and Kurt Boxdorfer.

I knew David for a Short time. New to Quitman and he welcomed me to Genealogy Club. Unfortunatly I only made one meeting. He was gracious enough to come to Rotary Club of Quitman and be my program a few weeks ago and we had a great time. Sorry for your loss

David was a walking history book of the Gilbreath family. Need information on the family, call David. He was president of the Gilbreath family reunion for years . Your many talents and dedications will remain a legacy and memorial. My sympathy is sent to the family .

I was fortunate enough to live down the street from David. We played football and baseball with all the neighborhood kids in the empty lot next to his house. We had alot of fun times growing up and talked about those times as adults. He was a great kid and a wonderful man. He will be truly missed

I was David's next door neighbor in Lakewood. I always had Thanksgiving dinner with he and his family. We always attended the Cowboys game that day. His Mom and Dad were fine people. Goodbye my friend.
