David Albert Bean, age 80, of Quitman, passed away on July 31, 2026.
David was born on November 9, 1945, in Topeka, Kansas. He spent many years in Mansfield, Texas, where he owned and operated his own stump grinding business. After retiring around 2010, he and his wife, Barbara, relocated to Quitman in 2012 to enjoy a quieter pace of life.
Although retired, David wasn't one to sit still. He went to work for Quitman ISD as an elementary school custodian, a job he truly loved. He enjoyed being around the students and staff and took pride in the work he did each day.
On June 7, 1996, David married the love of his life, Barbara, in Burleson, Texas. Together they built a life centered on faith and family. David was a devoted member of New Life Church in Mineola, where he found great comfort, purpose, and fellowship. His church meant so much to him.
David enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing. He was happy fishing for just about anything but had a special appreciation for catfish. He was an avid stamp collector and gathered an impressive collection over the years. Blessed with a green thumb, David could grow just about anything. He took pride in caring for his plants, especially his cactus and towering elephant ears that flourished under his care.
More than anything, David was known for his kind and generous heart. He loved his family deeply and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. Whether he was known as Pawpaw, Pop David, or Bonus Grandpa, he embraced each role with love.
David is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Bean; four sisters; his aunt, Velma Pollom, who helped raise him; and son, Darrell Hanson.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Bean of Quitman; 7 children, Danny Bean, Dana Carroll, Chris Law and wife Shae, Kevin Law and wife Wendy, Kirk Hanson and wife Mary, Ray Hanson and wife Theresa, and Carol Dinkins and husband David; 21 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral service for David will be held at 9:00 AM on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations. Graveside service will follow at Quitman Cemetery.
The family will receive friends during visitation from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday evening, August 5, 2026 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.
Serving as pallbearers are Danny Bean, David Dinkins, Chris Law, Cameron Law, PT Roberts, and Ray Hanson. Honorary pallbearer is Kirk Hanson.
