Cynthia Moulton Kirby passed away on January 8th, 2026 in College Station, Texas, at the age of 94. Cynthia was born in Mount Vernon, Texas, to Fleet and Luna Moulton on September 8, 1931. Cynthia, Valedictorian of Mount Vernon High School, attended East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. She earned her Bachelor’s in Business Administration in 1954. During this time in college, she met the love of her life, Bob Kirby. They married on July 12, 1954, after graduation and enjoyed 70 years of marriage.
After they married, they moved to Pittsburgh, Texas where she was secretary to the Superintendent of Schools. During this time, she and Bob had two daughters.
In 1967, Bob and Cynthia moved to Quitman with their young family to start their teaching careers and to build a life in the wonderful, small community. Cynthia was the junior high principal's secretary before moving into a teaching position. After teaching students with learning disabilities in the classroom, she discovered her passion which soon became her professional calling. Cynthia went back to school and received her Master’s in Special Education from East Texas State in 1972. In 1973, she became the Director of Special Education, overseeing a new program for 600 handicap students in six school districts. She was uniquely qualified for this position, drawing on her classroom experience and her excellent administrative skills. She set up the first county-wide uniform special education curriculum framework. She travelled every week to the different districts, coordinating all facets of this new program.
She retired in 1984. Cynthia spent her retirement years enjoying her hobbies and keeping up with her grandchildren. She loved fashion, sewing, cooking, decorating her home and helping Bob with his woodworking projects. She embraced a deep, personal faith from her early teenage years and instilled her faith within her family. She now resides in Heaven and has been reunited with Bob, her parents and so many family members and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Estakhri and husband Fari, College Station; Elizabeth Kirby, O’Brien, Florida; her beloved three granddaughters; Ryann Flint and husband Michael of Houston, Sarah Hightower and husband Clint of Houston, and Grace Presnal and husband Mac of Boulder, Colorado, and three great grandchildren, Michael Lewis Flint, Georgia Flint, and Penelope Hightower, and her brother, Ted Moulton of Dallas.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sodalis Senior Living and Luminos Hospice, College Station, Texas for their loving care for Cynthia.
