Charles Robert “Bob” Cassels, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished Papa, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024, at the age of 93. Bob was born on September 20, 1930, in Crockett, Texas, to his parents Robert Lee and Mary Odelle (McGee) Cassels.

Growing up in Mineola, Texas, Bob graduated from Mineola High School. He furthered his studies with college credits until his pursuit of higher education was interrupted when he answered the call of duty and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He served 2 years in the Naval Reserves and went into active duty in September 1951. Bob served with honor and distinction on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp until his honorable discharge in July 1953.

After his military service, Bob furthered his studies at the University of North Texas, where he met Betty Ruth Hibbs. Bob and Betty married in 1956.

Bob later embarked on a remarkable career with Pennzoil. He retired from Pennzoil as the District Personnel Manager for the Lafayette, LA offshore division in 1986 after 31 years.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Bob found enjoyment in deer hunting and spending time with his family. He was also a devoted member of Faith Baptist Church in Quitman.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Mary Odelle Cassels; and his sister, Annie Sue Ogden.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 67 years, Betty Cassels; two children, Kevin Cassels and wife Karen, and Kim Ward and husband Ken; two grandchildren, Carter Ward and wife Erica, and Rachel Ward Brown and husband Austin; and three great-grandchildren, Camden Robert Brown, Julia Grace Brown, and Blake Carter Ward.

A private funeral service will be held at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in memory of Bob to Faith Baptist Church (PO Box 1495, Quitman, TX 75783), Samaritan’s Purse (https:// www.samaritanspurse.org/), or a charity of your choice.
