Carrol Leigh Schwing

Carrol Leigh Schwing, 83, of Plano, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, at her daughter’s home, where she had lived for the past two years.

Carrol was born in Houston, Texas, on October 11, 1941, to Forest James Hutchinson and Farria Lee (Thompson) Hutchinson. She graduated from Milby High School in 1960, where she was proud to serve as a Coed Cadet, along with her best friend Patsy Medaris. On March 10, 1967, she married the love of her life, John Schwing, in Houston, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and community.

A devoted homemaker, Carrol also enjoyed working as a substitute teacher for Quitman Independent School District for 10 years. She adored the students, and they adored her in return. Her faith was central to her life. She was a member of Hubbard Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Mineola for 37 years and served faithfully in the nursery for 19 of those years.

Carrol lived life with energy, joy, and humor. In her younger years, she was a competitive roller skater, competing individually and with partners at Gulf Gate Roller Rink. She was also an avid and talented golfer, playing with the Ladies’ Golf Associations at Sun Meadows Country Club near Houston and later on at Mineola Country Club. She enjoyed deer hunting and often shared stories of her adventures—including the time she once killed a rattlesnake.

Above all, Carrol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Known affectionately as “Mimi,” she treasured her family and wore the title proudly.

Carrol’s life was defined by her love for others, her vibrant spirit, and her unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She greets in Heaven, her parents, Forest Hutchinson Sr. and Farria Hutchinson; husband, John Schwing; great-grandson, Declan O’Toole; and two brothers, Forest Hutchinson Jr. and Jack Parkison.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Kathy Cain and husband Michael, and Karen Champion; five grandchildren, Jacob Nunn, Leigh Anne O’Toole and husband Sean, Garrett Champion, Meredith Champion, and Travis Champion and wife Sierra; seven great-grandchildren, Rose Nunn, London O’Toole, Emerson O’Toole, Everett O’Toole, Oliver Champion, James Champion, and Elijah Champion; and many extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank the many friends, family, and loved ones who have prayed for Carrol along the way. A very special thank you is extended to The Legacy home hospice team—Kaleigh, Tina, Heather, Chaplain Timberlake, Tyese, Donna, Gazagn, and Ike—for their compassion, tender care, and loving support.

If desired, donations in memory of Carrol may be made to Hubbard Chapel Missionary Baptist Church for the Church Nursery.

A memorial service will be held at Hubbard Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Mineola, Texas on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM, with Kibby Brazelton officiating.

Carrol was laid to rest next to her husband on September 2, 2025 at Myrtle Springs Cemetery.
