Carlie Ray Rogers, 93, of Quitman, Texas, entered his Heavenly home on Tuesday afternoon, August 1, 2023; a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Carlie was born in Gorman, Texas, on April 20, 1930, to the late Cisro and Emma Mae Musick Rogers. He went to school in Desdemona, Texas. He then worked at Lone Star Gas Company in Grand Prairie, Texas. He met the love of his life, Vernell Ely, and they tied the knot on November 18, 1950. Carlie then joined the United States Army where he went to Korea from 1952 to 1954. Upon returning home, he worked at General Motors for 30 years.

Carlie and Vernell grew their family by two and had their children, Rick and Kim and lived in Fremont, California for 20 years. They later moved to Louisiana where he continued to work for General Motors until he retired to Quitman, Texas, in 1987. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Winnsboro, Texas, a member of the Wood County Sheriff’s posse for about five years. He also loved ranching and one of his most favorite things was being a grandpa to his granddaughter Kathleen “Katie” Elisabeth Rogers.

Carlie is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Vernell Rogers; parents, Emma and Cisro Rogers; three sisters, Letty Craddock, Gladys Bibby, and Veda Burns; and two brothers, Roy Rogers and Joe H. Rogers.

He is survived by his son, Rick Rogers of Lindale, Texas; daughter, Kim Rogers of Long Beach, California; granddaughter, Kathleen Rogers of Dallas, Texas; their devoted caregiver, Kristi Hunter and her son Aydin; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and neighbors who loved him dearly.
