Funeral services for Bobby Joe Mays, 82, of Quitman, are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Lowe Funeral Home with Reverend John Mooney, Brother Fred Morrow, and Jim Bowen officiating. Burial will follow at Quitman City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.
Bobby was born July 3, 1933 in Fort Worth to Joe and Nancy Mays and passed away June 23, 2016 in Quitman. On December 22, 1952 he married Daisy Dean Foster. He was a Quitman resident for 42 years, moving from Longview. He retired from both Wood County Electric and Amarada Hess. Bobby was a member of many clubs and organizations including Rotary Club, Bulldog Booster, and Scenic Association. He was also the Past Worshipful Master of the Flora Masonic Lodge, a member of Faith Baptist Church in Quitman, and a US Army Veteran.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Selinda Williams.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Daisy Mays of Quitman; daughters, Karen Gillam and husband Bob of Longview and Pamela Cathey and husband George of Quitman; four grandchildren, Shauna Attaway and husband James, Tasha Bain and fiancé Kirt McBride, Jason Cathey and wife Julie, and Daniel Cathey; and six great grandchildren, Lauren Cathey, Tyler Bain, Townes Cathey, Daisy Attaway, Brooks Cathey, and James A. Attaway IV.
Serving as pallbearers are Bob Gillam, George Cathey, Jason Cathey, Jim Attaway, Jim Bowen, and Kirt McBride.
