Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Bobby Wayne Hollis, 58, of Quitman, passed away on April 9, 2026, in Tyler, Texas.

He was born on March 24, 1968, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to J.W. Hollis Jr. and Lela Faye (Gilbreath) Hollis. Bobby grew up in Quitman and graduated from Quitman High School in 1986.

Following high school, he began his career working in Sulphur Springs for a contractor building roads. He later worked for an ambulance repair company, where he delivered ambulances to hospitals. Bobby then spent time farming vegetables before beginning a long career in wastewater management. He worked for the City of The Colony, later worked in Pilot Point, and eventually returned to The Colony, where he retired in 2022.

Bobby attended Rock Hill Baptist Church with his mother, where he was saved and baptized. He was also a member of the NRA.

He had a deep love for music and was talented at playing multiple instruments, including the guitar, accordion, piano, mandolin, and more. Bobby enjoyed working with his hands and often referred to his projects as “making science.” He loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing, camping, grilling, or hunting squirrels and hogs.

Above all, he cherished his family. He was lovingly known as “Pawpaw” by his grandson, a name he held close to his heart.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Vickey Steen.

Left to cherish his memory are his four daughters, Mackenzie Welch and husband Jose Terrazas of Uvalde, TX, Camille Hollis of Carrollton, TX, Delani Hollis of Quitman, TX, and Remy Hollis of Taos, NM; sister, Debora Hodge of Diana, TX; grandson, Emilio Terrazas; and several extended family members and numerous friends.

Funeral service for Bobby Hollis will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, April 13, 2026 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations with Brother Fred Morrow officiating. Graveside service will follow at Rock Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM.

Serving as pallbearers are Tyler Rowan, Shane Rose, Tony Reed, Richard Brown, Robert Gilliland, James Cummings, Dale Williams, and Jose Terrazas.
