Bobbie Sue Potts, age 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, July 7, 2025—just two weeks shy of her 94th birthday.
She was born on July 20, 1931, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Sid and Azzie Rue Brumley. Over the years, Bobbie’s life was full of love, family, and adventure. She was the proud mother of three children: Bobbie, Clarence, and Sid, and also welcomed eight stepchildren through other marriages.
A hard worker and entrepreneur, Bobbie retired from Montgomery Ward before entering the telemarketing field, where she also retired. She served as president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for five years. Later, she opened a balloon and gift shop in Quitman, creating balloon bouquets and selling greeting cards and other items. In 2000, she sold the business, moved to Louisiana, and remarried. Not one to stay idle, she soon started a new venture—selling baked goods to the public and local stores.
Bobbie was known for her love of baking, especially for her family and friends. In 2020, she returned to Quitman, where she spent her remaining years.
A woman of many talents, Bobbie also had a deep love for music. She played piano for many years at Hubbard Chapel Baptist Church, sharing her gift with the congregation and community.
There’s no way to capture all the things Bobbie did in her 93 years—her life was full, vibrant, and well-lived. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Sid and Azzie Rue Brumley; husbands, Clarence Hettich Sr., John Potts, and James Potts; brother, L.C. Brumley; four sisters, Mary Jo Wilson, Eloise Wallace, Ruby Nell McCracken, and Helen Greer; daughter, Bobbie Baker; son, Clarence Hettich Jr.; stepsons, Russell Potts, W.A. Potts, and Robert Earl Potts; and stepdaughter, Jackie Lambert.
She is survived by her children, Sid and Dana Hettich, Johnny and Debra Potts, Elliott and Annette Potts, Carolyn and Tim Simoneaux, Ann and Kenny Grafeo, and Kathy Potts. Her legacy also lives on in her numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews—all of whom she loved dearly.
Funeral service for Bobbie will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations. Graveside service will follow at Shooks Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:30AM.
