Billy Maynard Weems was born on June 5, 1939, to John Maynard and Bessie Ann Weems in the Forest Hill Community. He was raised on the family dairy farm, where he learned the value of hard work, strong family ties, and, most importantly, a lifelong faith in Jesus Christ.

At an early age, Billy Maynard accepted Christ as his personal Savior. On July 9, 2026, he entered his heavenly home, where he was joyfully reunited with his beloved wife, Eva Jane, his parents, and many other family members and friends. His faith guided every season of his life, and he faithfully served the Lord in church for many years as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and trustee.

Billy Maynard attended Quitman schools, where he excelled in basketball, and graduated with the Class of 1957.

He met the love of his life, Eva Jane Cranfill, and they were married on August 6, 1960. Together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage, building a home centered on faith, love, and family while raising their three children.

Billy began his career working on a dairy farm before entering the banking and lending industry in 1963. For more than 40 years, he faithfully served the people in the West Texas area and in Quitman. He earned the respect of his customers, coworkers, and peers through his integrity, honesty, and genuine care for others.

When he wasn’t working, Billy loved spending time on his land, caring for his cattle, and, on more than one occasion, getting his bulldozer or tractor stuck in the mud. His family affectionately nicknamed him the “CEO of the Weems Demolition Crew,” a title he proudly embraced.

Above all else, Billy treasured his family. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his children, seven grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren, all of whom lovingly knew him as “Papa.” His wisdom and unwavering love will continue to shape their lives for generations.

Billy never met a stranger and loved to talk. He was quick with a smile, always willing to lend a helping hand, and lived his life with steadfast faith and deep devotion to his family.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, John Maynard and Bessie Ann Weems; his beloved wife, Eva Jane Weems; his sister, Jo Ruth Ziegler; his great-grandson, Walker Alan Weems; and other cherished family members.

He is survived by his sons, Don Weems and wife Tanya, Kent Weems and wife Laura Lee, and his daughter, Kristi Bridges and husband Rocky, all of Quitman; sisters, Nita Dobbs of Tyler, and Judy Ethridge and husband Ed of Tomball; sister-in-law Kathy Ellis of Carrollton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren: Lauren and Clay Hightower, Jody and Heather Weems, Kevin and Leah Weems, Lindsey and Brandon Davidson, Colby and Consondra Bridges, Josh and Skylar Weems and Kyle and Hannah Bridges.

His great-grandchildren are Lucas, Isaac, and Abigail Hightower; Tucker Weems; Judah, Asher, Evelyn, and Norah Weems; Lincoln and Charlee Davidson; Naliana, Navia, Arya, and Aliza Bridges; Weston and Ellie Weems; and Riley, Gentry, and Beau Bridges.

Serving as pallbearers are Jody Weems, Kevin Weems, Colby Bridges, Josh Weems, Kyle Bridges, Clay Hightower, and Brandon Davidson. Honorary pallbearers are Lucas and Isaac Hightower and Lincoln Davidson.

A Celebration of Life for Billy Maynard Weems will be held at Faith Baptist Church in Quitman, Texas, on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, at Lowe-Gardner Funeral Home in Quitman. Interment will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery in Quitman.
