Bert Walter Blair, age 85, of Quitman, peacefully passed away on April 12, 2024, in Tyler.

Bert Blair was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 26, 1939 to Everett and Eleanor Blair.

Bert served his country proudly in the United States Army and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant before retiring in 1983. Bert lived a life marked by service and sacrifice.   Bert's marksmanship skills were legendary, earning him the titles of Sharpshooter, Expert (M1 Rifle), and Marksman

Through the Masonic Lodge of Mineola, Bert cultivated friendships and shared values that enriched his life. His legacy is one of bravery, camaraderie, and commitment to his community. Bert was also faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Quitman.  While his physical presence may be gone, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Bert is preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Eleanor (Cools) Blair; son, Dennis Blair; and daughter, Janet Blair.

A man of deep commitment and unwavering loyalty, Bert is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Darlene Blair. Their enduring love was a testament to the strength of their bond.

He is also survived by his daughter, Melody Blair Dryer; son, Ron Blair; daughter-in-law, Candy Blair; son-in-law, Ken Pape; son-in-law, Graeme Rushing; sister-in-law, Donna Blair; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; nephews, Cliff Blair, Carl Blair, Jerry Cordle, Jim McCall, and David McCall; and niece, Mary Cordle.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, April 19, 2024 at Lowe-Gardner Funerals & Cremations with Reverend Thomas Harper officiating. Graveside service will follow at Quitman City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday evening, April 18th, at the funeral home.

As we bid farewell to honor Bert, we remember his kindness, his dedication, and the profound impact he had on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
