Funeral services for Alice Parl Blalock Vance 90, of Quitman are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 19, 2014, Myrtle Springs Baptist Church, Quitman, with Brother Heith Mitchell and Mark Van Vessem officiating. Burial will follow in Myrtle Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday evening August 18th at Lowe Funeral Home Quitman.

Alice Pearl was a 5th generation resident of Wood County, descending from four pioneer Wood County families. She was born May 26, 2014 on the family farm, attended Cana School and graduated from Quitman High School in 1940. After graduaton she attended East Texas State Teachers College for one year and then worked during World War 11 at the Red River Arsenal.

In 1944 she married Stanley Vance and they celebrated 56 years of marriage before he died in 2001. She is survived by sons, Ronnie Vance (Nan) and Tom Vance; daughters, Nancy Byrd and Patti Maxwell (Joe). Also surviving is a step-son, Kenneth Vance (Lynn); 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patricia Blalock and several nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers are Michael Byrd, Brandon Byrd, Carlos Navarro, Matt Maxwell, David Maxwell, Michael Vance, and Lee Clark.

Memorials may be made to the Myrtle Springs Cemetery Association, 1005 W. SH 154, Quitman, TX 75783 or the Quitman Public Library, 202 E. Goode, Quitman, TX, 75783.
